2020 VISION
.
 Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury

May 19, 2009

Dear Parishioners of St. Paul’s Church and Members of the St. Paul’s Montessori School Community:

This weekend the parish Vestry and the School Board met to discuss the future development of the church and school.  This was a stimulating and quite fruitful meeting and produced an outline of what we want to see happen between now and 2020.

As many of you are aware, the property to the east of the church parking lot has been acquired and is coming to us as a gift, thanks to the generosity of Roy and Peggy Jones. This property opens opportunities that simply weren’t possible before.  We now have the space to:

            >Expand the school to 150 students going through upper elementary, with the                                additional classrooms

            >Have a multi-use “gymatorium” for many activities;

            >Have dedicated space for the outreach ministries of the church;

            >Have small group meeting spaces for church, community groups, school groups;

            >Have a community garden where our students and neighbors can grow their own food;

            >Have additional playground space and additional parking;

             >Enhance our spiritual life with a labyrinth or meditation garden.

These are just some of the ideas that have been put forth.

A Master Planning Committee for the Vestry and School Board has been formed and given the task to develop a Phased-in Development program with construction of some portions of it well underway or completed by 2010.  This committee is comprised of me, Kay Mijangos (Headmistress), Roy Jones (Vestry), Sarah Busse (Vestry & parent), Tom Peters (Vestry), Roy Schweers (School Board & parent), and Leo Perron (School Board).  They will work over the summer to draft an overview of the items we identify as priorities, and to identify an architectural firm to work with to develop the Master Plan.  A combined School and Vestry Development Committee will also be working with our Advancement Team to investigate funding resources.

In the next several months there will be opportunity for you—our parishioners, parent community, teachers, and donors—to share with us your hopes, dreams and visions for the church and school.  Everyone’s input and participation is wanted and needed in order to help our communities flourish.  All of us on the Vestry and School Board also welcome the opportunity to discuss ideas that may come to you, so please don’t hesitate to make your visions known.

Faithfully yours,

 The Rev. Doug Earle

Rector & Chairman of the School Board
