An update and another example of how the people of San Antonio come through.
A couple of months ago, we told you that Our Lord's Table at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and School on the East Side was trying to raise money in hopes of receiving a matching grant.
Here's the deal: Alan Shawn Feinstein of Rhode Island and his Feinstein Foundation pledged a total of $1 million to help organizations around the country that fight hunger. The foundation will match a portion of the local money raised between March 1 and April 30. Of course, the real power of the pledge is to inspire local donors.
And it has.
According to John Pyeatt, the director of the effort, Our Lord's Table raised $50,000 in cash and canned food — the maximum amount the foundation will consider for matching.
Gracias, San Antonio.
