MUSIC AT ST. PAUL'S
.

O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven:
Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and
music to perfect the praises offered
by your people on earth;
and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and
make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE CHOIR AND CHORAL SCHOLARS

The Choir and Choral Scholars of St. Paul's sing the Solemn Mass on Sundays and Feast Days, and sing the Choral Office at Evensong. The semi-professional choir is composed of parishioners, students from area colleges and universities, most of them working on advanced degrees, and professionals from the San Antonio community. The worship at St. Paul's, deeply sacramental, incarnational, and devotional, makes full use of the rich resources of The Book of Common Prayer and, true to the ideals of the Oxford Movement, music plays a very important part in the liturgy. The choir sings Psalms (to both plainsong and Anglican Chant), settings of the Mass Ordinary, canticles, anthems and motets drawn from all periods of music history while placing an emphasis on the music from our own rich Anglican heritage.

THE ST. CECELIA CHORISTERS

A children’s ministry in the life of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church offering this ministry to the Glory of God as a choral and worship experience in the tradition of the Episcopal Church.  The St. Cecelia Choristers are children aged 7 years and older who commit to singing for the school year.  Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons, 2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m., with rehearsals with the adult choir as needed.  The choristers sings for Sunday services and for special services throughout the year.

JOHN HARE, ORGANIST AND CHOIRMASTER
John is a native San Antonian who most recently led an active and growing music program rooted in the Anglican choral tradition at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He has studied piano, organ, conducting and vocal performance, and has held similar positions in Texas, Oklahoma and Virginia.  Following his studies at university, John continued his organ studies with Dr. Thomas Matthews of Trinity Church, Tulsa, with a concentration on improvisation.  He has performed extensively as organist and singer, and his performances have been broadcast, most recently with the recording entitled Thou Art Praised with the Choir and Choral Scholars of St. Dunstan’s.  John has served on the board of the Charles City Cultural Alliance and as an officer in the American Guild of Organists, and is a member of the Royal School of Church Music, and
The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem.
