for children

Children are always welcome — squeaks, squirms, and all!

We print this promise at the top of each of our bulletins, and we believe that all children are a vibrant part of our church community. Jesus is the one who said, “Let the little children come to me.” We have a responsibility to care for and support our kids, as their faith journey is just as important as any adult’s. We hope they grow up surrounded by the beauty of holiness, inheriting a faith that affirms the dignity of every human being. To that end, children are fully included in the life of our parish.

Being present doesn’t always mean being quiet or still, but we believe that children belong in and are a blessing to the church.

At the back of the church we have a dedicated space for children who need some room to move and play, with toys for them and seats for their parents. This space is only separated by a pew, so both kids and caregivers can still be see and hear everything that’s happening.

We also have activity boxes that kids can take back to their pews if they want to something to work on during worship.

NURSERY

We also have nursery available for children 4ish and under at our 10:30 AM Mass on Sunday mornings. Located just across the hall from the side entrance to the church, our nursery takes place in a Montessori toddler classroom under the guidance of paid staff.

CHILDREN’S CHAPEL

During the school year, our older kids (4ish to 10ish) are invited to participate in children’s chapel. We don’t see this as a way to remove children from church — we believe it’s important for our kids to be familiar and comfortable in worship, and we welcome all kids to join us for the liturgy. But we also believe that we owe it to our children to offer intentional, age-appropriate faith formation. We have a responsibility to raise up the next generation of faithful followers of Jesus!

Our Montessori-inspired Godly Play curriculum takes place in a dedicated children’s chapel. Kids are invited to follow the children’s minister out to children’s chapel at the beginning of worship, and return by the mid-service announcements so that they can receive Communion together with their families.

but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”
