What To Expect

worship AT St. Paul’s follows ancient patterns that connect us with Christians across centuries and around the world. You’ll hear Scripture, join in responses, and share in Communion.

DRESS

1

Some people dress up, some people dress down, but we do not have a dress code. Really. We sincerely hope that you will come as you are. You won’t stand out.

PARTICIPATION

2

Participate as much or as little as you wish. In our services you’ll see people standing, kneeling, bowing, or making the sign of the cross at various times — none of this is required, and you are free simply to observe until it feels natural.

HOLY COMMUNION

3

At this altar there are no strangers, outcasts, or unwanted guests. All are welcome to the table of our Lord. Baptized Christians, including children, are invited to receive Communion; others are invited to come forward for a blessing, or to simply remain seated if you prefer.

ACCESSIBILITY

4

Accessible parking and entrance are available in the parking lot off of East Grayson Street. Enter through the red door and proceed down the hall to the other end of the building. Accessible restrooms are available, and the sanctuary is accessible, although there is a step up to the altar; please let an usher know if you would prefer Holy Communion to be brought to you in your pew; we’re happy to accommodate such requests. If you have additional needs, please let us know — we are glad to help.

Music at St. Paul’s

Music is one of the ways we pray. At our Sunday 10:30 am service, we draw from a wide range of hymns accompanied by piano or organ, and the Eucharist is chanted. Our anthems span a wide musical landscape—from gospel and spirituals to Anglican choral works to contemporary sacred music—supported by preludes and postludes drawn largely from a classical repertoire.

If you love to sing, we’d be glad to welcome you to the choir—no audition required. The main expectations are simple: come prepared, practice your music, and let our choir director know well ahead of time if you’ll be absent.

Whether by adding your voice to the choir or simply singing along in the congregation, you’re invited into the song by which we life our hearts to God.

FEASTS & HOLY DAYS

Throughout the year, St. Paul’s observes the major feasts and holy days of the Church’s year with weekday Eucharists or other special liturgies as appropriate. Principal Feasts—such as Epiphany, Ascension, and All Saints’ (when they fall during the week)—are generally celebrated with weekday Mass. Other feasts, holy days and seasons have their own special liturgies and services (such as the Solemn Collects for Good Friday, the Great Vigil of Easter, or Lessons & Carols at Christmastide).

Upcoming services for these feasts and special days are always posted on our website and in our newsletter, and you are warmly invited to join us whenever you’re able.
