TO BE CHRISTIAN IS TO GIVE THANKS
The central prayer of our worship is called the Great Thanksgiving: we thank God for our creation and redemption, and we offer our own gifts back to God as a sign of gratitude. On the altar bread and wine are transformed into holy food, monetary offerings are transformed into ministry, and we — offering ourselves as a “living sacrifice” — are transformed into holy people.
Our thanksgiving is a response to the love of God, freely given to us, and the grace of God, which sets us free from earning or proving our worthiness. When it feels like every aspect of our lives is being commodified and commercialized, giving is not just an act of faith — it’s an act of resistance. As followers of Jesus, we put our money where our mouth is to tell a better story.
